LIGHT THERAPY

WHAT ARE RED LIGHT (RLT) AND INFRARED LIGHT (NIR) THERAPY?

Red Light Therapy and Near-Infrared Light Therapy are emerging treatments being used to address wrinkles, redness, acne, scars, muscle pain, inflammation, and other signs of aging.

Both red and near-infrared light are part of the natural light spectrum and have been clinically shown to enhance cellular function. Red light (around 620–700 nm) is absorbed by the skin to support collagen production and overall skin health, while near-infrared light (around 700–1,400 nm) penetrates deeper into tissue to help reduce inflammation, improve muscle recovery, and speed healing.

HOW TO GET STARTED

With Red-Light & Infrared Therapy

We start with an in-person or virtual consultation to review your skin concerns, goals, and medical history. We’ll confirm if Red Light and Infrared Therapy is appropriate for you and discuss how it can complement your existing skincare or wellness routine.
Based on your goals (anti-aging, healing, pain relief, or overall wellness), we create a customized plan. This includes how often you’ll come in—typically 2–4 times per week—and the length of each session, usually between 20 and 40 minutes.
During each visit, you’ll relax under the red and infrared light panels. Treatments are painless and require no downtime. We’ll monitor your response over time, adjust your plan as needed, and may combine therapy with other in-office treatments to help you reach your goals faster.

Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve answered the most common questions about Red Light and Infrared Therapy.

RLT and NIR are emerging treatments used for wrinkles, redness, acne, scars, muscle pain, inflammation, and other signs of aging. Both are in the natural light spectrum and have been clinically shown to enhance cellular function, improve skin health, and support healing when used appropriately.
Red light therapy is thought to work by acting on mitochondria, the “power plants” of your cells. With more energy available, cells can repair skin and boost new cell growth more efficiently. RLT may stimulate collagen and fibroblast production, increase blood circulation, and reduce inflammation in the skin, which supports better texture and tone.
Red light therapy is promoted as a treatment to improve wound healing, stretch marks, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, facial texture, psoriasis, rosacea, eczema, scars, sun-damaged skin, hair growth in some types of hair loss, and acne. It is also being studied for support with certain pain and inflammatory conditions.
When used short-term and as directed, red light therapy is generally considered safe and non-invasive. It does not use ultraviolet (UV) light and is not known to cause cancer. However, overuse or improper use could irritate the skin or eyes, so treatments should always follow professional guidance.
Most people see the best results with a series of sessions. You can see current pricing at www.thewls.com/cost.
